Marcelle tells us about her experience at Race for the Cure:
Race day arrived and we walked to help find the cure for
cancer and give Dinorah (my mom) all our support and love.
Since we were doing the event in her honor, we come up with
the idea of doing it as a team... and Dino’s Team was created.
Nine wonderful people joined us in Dino’s Team: Bianca and
Jade (my twin girls), Jose Javier (my brother), Omar (my husband), Cristina
(our cousin), Fernando (Cristina’s husband), Mariel (our friend), Ana Maria
(Mariel’s sister), and Miriam (Mariel’s mom). They also have loved ones who have been affected by cancer, so it made it extra special to share the moment
with them. Thanks!!
Mariel is a graphic designer, with an amazing talent btw,
and she created the coolest T-shirts (with a little cute dinosaur on the back!)
for the team.
Have to admit, the moment when I saw my mom with her special cancer survivor T-shirt and I pinned her runner bib (number) on, it really sunk in why we were there. It was very emotional and a few tears were definitely shed.
But, WE DID IT! We walked for my mom, all cancer patients,
survivors, their care-givers and support systems. Mission accomplished!!!
Dino’s Team @ Susan G Komen Race for the Cure Event
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Sunday September 30, 2012
In terms of my training plan, I finished the race in 55:43
minutes, with an average pace of 16:26 min/mi. Not bad for my first 5K event
ever!
Did learn a thing or two about the race start, how crowded it can get in
some spots, the oasis (and water drinking results) and most important my focus
and limits.
I’m confident that I will be ready for February!!! ;)
